THREE ACTION MEN

I was at the tender young age of 17 when I was introduced to “SPEARFISHING” how exciting I though, a real live “action man”! Years later and not so tender I’ve found out what spearfishing is really about, now with 3 action men all doing their stuff.

Dave was always obsessed with diving, and when our 1st born arrived it was obvious he too was going to be the same, he loved being bathed, his head was always under the water, and one of his first words was “Fish”. The 2nd born was not so keen, at last an ally I thought, he hated the water, hated anything to do with boats especially actually being in one. That was until he grew out of the fear of water, and then I lost all 3 to Good Viz. and Big Bass Spots.

The diving season approaches and they’re get twitchy, is the water warm enough yet? I hear the boys say, not quite says Dave (phew! A few more weeks on my own) he says.

When it is time for all 3 to take the plunge, it’s manic. 3 lots of smelly diving gear to be glued and stitched, spears to be sharpened, floats being mended. Poor old Dave doesn’t know if he’s coming or going, the stress levels are at a all time high the night before a national, me I’m making the sarnies and drinks, and hoping the sun will shine for my six hour stint on the beach, worrying until all 3 are back safe and sound.

Yes I feel out numbered and left out sometimes when they are all sharing the same excitement, and yes by the end of the season I’m sick to the back teeth of the 3 same Big Bass that got away. But deep down I wouldn’t have it any other way, a tinge of proudness does creep in on rare occasions. I know that they are doing something that they love to do, they are not hanging around the house under my feet and making a mess and anyone that knows my budding Robbie Williams, will understand the peace and tranquillity I have, when they’re out “ SPEARFISHING”.
